Set amidst 6 acres of natural forest, The Hermitage is a property which is difficult to Match. Magically poised on the edge of the Victoria Reservoir, the property is populated by 41 species of Birds including the near extinct Grey Parrot, numerous monkey’s, wild boar, deer and a variety of lizards.
Located along the edge of the Victoria Reservoir with a water frontage of more than one kilometre and spread over an area of Six acres of Virgin forest, The Hermitage is positioned 2103 feet above sea level with an average temperature of 25 C. The site of an ancient Hermitage, the monks used to grow many medicinal Herbs and plants which are still used in the kitchen to turn out healthy dishes for the body and soul or make massage oils according to centuries old recipes. The building is not air conditioned and open to the environment around and the healthy mountain air blowing from the Hunnasgiriya Range.
Accommodation
Built by world renowned architect Channa Daswatte and Interiors ably designed by Thanuj Guanawardene, the property has been designed in a manner that every room and living space has breath-taking views of the Reservoir and the Misty mountains beyond. Every one of the three rooms in the property has been specially designed and equipped with all modern Amenities to ensure maximum Luxury. All bedrooms are furnished with supersized king beds luxury.
Available Room Types
Named after the famous Kundalini Yoga designed to cultivate the creative spiritual potential of a human, kundalini is located on the second floor of the building offering, a clear view of the lake, and the tree tops of the forest surrounding the Building.
The room has all the luxury amenities that a Property of this nature could offer including exclusive mattresses and exquisite linen. The bed in the room is where ‘Anagarika Dharmapala’ an ancient hero of Sri Lanka slept and the room has an antique writing table. The en-suite bathroom is filled with genuine antique works of art and complete with a bath and shower with amazing views of the lake and the Hills beyond.
This room is located on the First floor of the building on the same level as the Infinity pool and one level on top of the spa. Named after the Samatha yoga designed to calm the Mind, Samatha is a small Peaceful and Cosy room set slightly away from Staircases and other common areas. Ideal for a couple It has a twin view, on one side the Lake and the other the forest. Many sightings of Deer, Wild Boar, Monkeys and Monitor Lizard has been reported from this room.
Furnished with genuine kandyan antiques, it has an en suite bathroom with standard shower and an antique four poster bed with Luxurious bed linen.
Vipassana meaning an insight into the true nature of reality, is a beautiful suite which transports guests into a world of unreality. Vipassana’s immediate neighbours are a family of wild parrots that live in a tree just outside the room. It has a large bedroom, a Dressing room and en-suite bathroom. Vipassana also has its own ‘Antique Library’ with extremely rare ancient coins and works of art made with Ivory used by kandyan royalty more than a century ago.
It offers amazing views of the lake as well as the forest. The en-suite bathroom complete with two showers, one out door and one indoor and outsized bath, is decorated with genuine antique pieces and offers an amazing view of the Lake as well as the forest.
