Overview

Visit the walled city in Galle and walk through the history of it. The old Dutch fort is situated in the  Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese. But the fort was later fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century. The fort is rich withhistorical, archaeological and architectural heritage monuments. And even today after 424 years the buildings still maintain a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.

Today the heritage value of the fort has been recognized by the UNESCO and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage UNESCO World Heritage Site. Roam around the street of the walled city and discover the beauty of the rich culture and heritage Sri Lanka has to offer.
