Cinnamon Citadel Kandy

Cinnamon Citadel Lakeview

The Cinnamon Citadel is a 119 roomed hotel overlooking the Mahaweli river, and conveniently located close to Asgiriya Stadium & Botanical Gardens in Kandy.

A very interesting history precedes this charming Hotel, which belongs to the reputed Cinnamon chain of Hotels in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

The location of the Cinnamon Citadel Kandy is the place where the ancestral home or Wallauwa of the aristocratic Dunuwila family stood during the era of royal rule. Dunuwila, a Minister of the King, lived here with his extended family. According to legend, the King would often stop at this location to bathe in the river and also spend time in the Wallauwa.

One can only guess the attraction this place had for the King way back then. But should you visit the Hotel in this present day, the reasons are more than obvious. It is an atmosphere filled with serenity, romance, mystery, adventure and inspiration.
