ItineraryMet on arrival from your flight or picked up from Colombo hotel where
you will be taken to the Ranweli Resort.
You will start the 16 Km cycle tour from here. Cycle trail will include
visits to the 300 year old St. Mary’s church, Boralessa Tank (irrigation
reservoir), Bandirippuwa Tank and the Thuparama Temple. The route could
be covered in about two hours and you will pass through rural village
life and be able to interact with the community as well as experience
other little interests along the way.
Return to the Resort for dinner and overnight.
Leave for a boat ride to Dandugam Oya, which is the main freshwater
source to the Negombo Lagoon. Continue along part of the Dutch Canal,
Negombo Lagoon and Muthurajawela Marsh. The boat trip will be of three
hours.
Dinner and over night will be at a hotel in Waikkal.
Breakfast will be at the resort; after which you will proceed to Kitulgala for some
flat-water rafting.
The rafting in flat water, will cover about 3 Km and of about one hour’s duration. Proceed to Ratnapura for Overnight.
Sinharaja literally means ‘Lion King’, in Sinhala. The rainforest contains about 50% of the endemic mammals & butterflies unique to Sri Lanka.
Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.
Today you leave for Ella traveling through the winding mountains roads. You will drive along the Haputale Pass, which it’s sweeping and spectacular views of the southern & south-eastern plains below. Arrive at the resort, where you can refresh and relax. Optionally you could take a trek to the Karandagolla path in the afternoon. This is a 2 ¼ Km trek, and takes about 2 ½ hrs thought the forest.
Return to the resort for dinner and overnight.
Today’s trek is to Meedeniya a self sufficient village only accessible by Thawalama (Bullock cart caravan). The trail to this village in the jungle will take you through paddy fields, forests, and hills. You will be able to see a scenic mountain range and the Handapanagala Reservoir as well as ancient ruins.
Trek back to the Resort for dinner and overnight.
Breakfast will be at the Resort, after which you will proceed to Tissa. Your 4WD safari trip to Yala National Park will commence from here. The park has large open grassy plains and numerous water holes along the tracks where game could be watched at ease. Elephant, Spotted & barking Deer, Sambar, Gray Langur, Toque Monkey, Jackal, Water Monitor, Marsh & Estuarine Crocodile etc could be seen quite easily. With some luck you could spot the elusive leopard and bear.
Proceed to hotel for overnight.
You can have a leisurely breakfast, after which proceed to the coastal village of Unawatuna. Relax in one of the best beaches in the world. Overnight will be a hotel in Unawatuna/ Galle.
Have a leisurely breakfast and visit the famous Galle Fort. The Dutch Fort contains spacious houses & the first Protestant church in Sri Lanka and is an interesting place to wander about.
Proceed to Bentota or Wadduwa. Overnight at hotel.
