Dutch House
Just
next to Sun House is its sister property, the Dutch House also known as
Doornberg, the original structure dating back to 1717. At 120km from Colombo,
and a 160 km from the airport, the Dutch House is an architectural masterpiece.
The Dutch house, belonging to the Dutch colonial times was recently renovated by the renowned architect, Channa Daswatte and started operation as a hotel 3 years back. The structure has remained the same, and Channa has only added in glory to its elegant yet simple design.
This boutique hotel is no doubt one of my favourites, owing to the absolute calmness and yet majestic elegance it radiates. It is a journey back in time but coupled with all the modern comforts. The hotel is exclusively luxurious in its own unique way, completely out of the ordinary and no doubt a new experience…It is a perfect base to experience Sri Lanka…A great retreat to relax, after a long day of touring.
The polished cemented floors and the clay-tiled roof with its simple furnishings all add to the experience of a by-gone era still very much alive in this part of the country. The beautifully maintained garden and a gloriously inviting pool are there to complete your experience in this boutique hotel.
