SIMPLE LIVING SPACES
The 2 star Centuria Hotel in Embilipitiya is a wonderful place to spend peaceful days enveloped in the simple comforts that you require when travelling through the island en-route to the South coast or the Uda Walawe National Park, or even to just relax and unwind.
The Centuria Hotel is situated on the edge of the Chandrika Reservior near Embilipitiya, and the natural scenery is very appealing to travellers – with the Suriya Kanda Range rising skyward beyond the Chandrika Tank and the beautiful landscape all around.
The Hotel itself has been upgraded over the years, so that though it is still reminiscent of Sri Lanka ages ago, the facilities are modern enough to enable guests to be comfortable and relaxed.
There are 50 Rooms in the Hotel, furnished in a minimalist style, but providing the essentials for a hassle-free vacation. Located in the main wing, guests can choose from 28 Standard A/C Rooms and 14 Luxury A/C Rooms. The Luxury Rooms are more spacious than the others and all the Rooms are equipped with Satellite TV, telephone and en-suite Bathrooms along with balconies that overlook the lake. The Bathrooms are fitted with showers while 5 of the Luxury Rooms have baths.
More recently, 4 lakeside cottages have been added to the Centuria’s accommodation options, and these offer a total of 8 Air Conditioned Rooms, are furnished in a more modern style, and have balconies, a Kitchen, Fridge, a little table and Ironing Board. The Bathrooms too are of a far better standard than the normal Rooms.
The Restaurant / Bar is old-style in appearance, but offers both Sri Lankan and Western cuisine.
The facilities at the Centuria Hotel include
- Swimming Pool that borders the picturesque Chandrika Lake
- Doctor on call
- Laundry Service
- 18 hour Room Service

- Ayurveda Centre which is housed in a charming cottage-like building

The activities available to keep you entertained during your stay at Centuria include boat rides, lake fishing and cycling, but the most exciting would be the safari into the Uda Walawe National Park which is 30,820 hectares of protected jungle that is home to a variety of animals, mainly Elephants. It is said that approximately 500 Elephants reside in the Park, and roam in herds sometimes as large as 100.
Another very interesting place to visit, and one that would be most entertaining and educational for kids, is the Elephant Transit Camp adjoining the National Park. Orphaned baby Elephants are nurtured here till they are of age to be set free into their natural habitat – the Uda Walawe jungle. Specific times are allocated for feeding each day, and you can visit during that time and watch all the fun! An Elephant Sponsorship Programme is available for anyone wishing to support this worthy cause and help conserve the Elephant population in the island.
You will no doubt, yearn to visit this lovely Hotel with its modest ambience that is all the more welcoming in its simplicity. So drop in again, on your way somewhere or make a special trip. Whatever brings you here, you will be glad it did.
