Showcases Destination Sri Lanka
Mihin Air, commenced operations to Thailand last week, revitalizing the long and intimate relationship that exists between Thailand and Sri Lanka. At the launch, Minister for Tourism and Sports of Thailand the Hon. Dr Suwit Yodmanee, the Chief Guest, reiterated Mihin Air CEO, Sajin de Vaas Gunawardana’s sentiments “It is the commonality of the religion – Buddhism – that is the main bond between Sri Lanka and Thailand”. Dr Suwit Yodmanee also said “I am happy to see a newer and more energetic airline flying in to Bangkok.”
Thais gladly acknowledged the part played by Sri Lanka, in introducing Buddhism, to Thailand and the help extended in maintaining the Theravada tradition. In the 18th century, Thailand (Siam) in turn, is said to have helped the King of Sri Lanka to restore the higher ordination of Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka, re-establishing a bond which dates back many hundred years.
Channa Upuli dance troupe mesmerized the audience with an unbeatable performance, doing Sri Lanka proud. The dancers and the drummers, made a lasting impact on the visitors, who saw just one feature of a rich culture; stimulating curiosity to see more of Sri Lanka.
It was a moment in time when Mihin Air exposed Destination Sri Lanak to those present at the launch, as a destination not to be missed.
